The Diploma in Electrical Engineering is an AICTE approved three-year diploma Programme, which commenced at the Government Polytechnic Panaji with the establishment of the institution in the year 1963. It is one of the parent departments of the Institute which has catered to the development of quality engineers. The department has highly qualified and experienced teaching faculty most of them having a post graduate degree in Engineering.

The admission to this professional course can be taken up after S.S.C.E. or H.S.S.C.E. The curriculum is spread over a period of three years with semester pattern. The students are given excellent exposure to theoretical and practical knowledge of Electrical and Electronics related subjects with well equipped laboratories.

To gain practical knowledge the department makes a conscious effort to organize field visits, industrial tours and seminars for the benefit of students. Departmental staff was deputed on several workshops/courses to upgrade themselves with the latest trends in technology.

The Department of Electrical Engineering not only caters to the educational needs of students but also strives for their overall development. As a department we strive to produce quality engineers who will help in building up our nation.

Electrical Measurement Lab: This laboratory is mainly used to perform practicals in the subjects of electrical measurements and instruments, power electronics, circuit theory and other experiments pertaining to measurements and instrumentation with well equipped measuring instruments and kits.

Electrical Machines Lab: Electrical Machine laboratory caters to conducting experiments in the subjects of Electrical Machines I & II, Electrical Drives and all practicals related to testing and maintenance of electrical machines. It is well equipped with AC/DC motor/ generator sets and other required setup.

Electrical Workshop Lab: All experiments of Basic Electrical Engineering, Electrical Workshop Practice, Substation Practice are conducted in Electrical Workshop Lab. It is well equipped along with electrical materials required for conducting experiments and preparing electrical job to be submitted by students.

Electrical project work is to integrate the knowledge, skill and attitudes developed after completion of the subjects for developing competency in a particular specialized job. The students will select a topic, get the raw materials and implement the design. The leadership quality, coordination of job and maintaining a good communal harmony is important factor of this type of activity.

Project work comprises of making a working model or prototype, and preparing Project report in detail, which includes list of components used, testing of component, fabrication and work distribution, testing and fault finding, drawing of circuit diagram and costing etc. The success of the project is no doubt the goal but the group activity is also critically evaluated.
