Persons with Disabilities

Introduction:

The scheme is addressed as ‘Integrating Persons with Disabilities in the Mainstream of Technical and Vocational Education’. The Government polytechnic Panaji has been implementing this scheme since 1999-2000.

The institution offers benefit of the scheme as follows:

  1. Formal courses for regular diploma programs in Engineering and technology
  2. Non-formal short term certificate courses of duration from 3months to 6 months

Eligibility (For Formal Courses): Candidate must have:

  1. Certificate of Physical disability from competent authority showing Disability of 40% and above, preferably with Identity card issued by Directorate of Social Welfare
  2. Passed Xth(S.S.C.E. +)/XIIth(H.S.S.C.E.+) from the Goa Board of Secondary & Higher Secondary Education or Central board of Secondary Education, from the Schools from Goa State only, with 35%(with approval) marks in aggregate and have offered subjects of Science, Mathematics and English

Note: Admissions will be strictly on the basis of the Common State diploma prospectus and as per the directives of the above scheme.
On successful completion of diploma the student shall be awarded diploma certificate from Board of technical Education Goa state.

Certificates required:

  1. All certificates as stated in the common prospectus for admissions to diploma courses.
  2. Medical certificate mentioning the disability issued by medical board.
  3. Vocational evaluation certificate from vocational rehabilitation centre (VRC) after provisional admissions this certificate shall be arranged by Government Polytechnic Panaji Goa.

Eligibility (For Non -Formal courses):

Candidate must have:

  1. No compulsory Education level is required as the qualifying exam, but basic education/ aptitude will be considered as education criterion
  2. Certificate of Physical disability from competent authority showing Disability of 40% and above, preferably with Identity card issued by Directorate of Social Welfare
  3. Vocational evaluation certificate from vocational rehabilitation centre (VRC) after provisional admissions this certificate shall be arranged by Government Polytechnic Panaji Goa

Computer based

  • Desk Top Publishing
  • Data entry operator
  • Computer graphics

Art based

  • Dress making
  • Embroidery
  • Cutting and stitching

General

  • Photography
  • Food processing
  • Bakery
  • Food preservation
  • Laboratory Attendant

(These courses shall be conducted subject to availability of resource person and enrolment of suitable number of students)

On successfull completion of the above short term courses the student shall be awarded certificate by Government polytechnic Panaji.

Course Duration:

The Formal courses are of the duration of the Diploma programme admitted i.e. 3 years as mentioned in the Common Diploma Prospectus. The Non-Formal courses are of short Term duration of 3 to 6 months.

The institution reserves 25 supernumerary seats in different diploma programs reservation for which is as follows:

Facilities offered under the scheme"

  1. No course fees shall be charged for the diploma programme
  2. Scholarship/stipend and other facilities as applicable in the scheme will be offered
  3. Free Hostel Accommodation and boarding in the campus
  4. Barrier Free Infrastructure for PWDs at the Institute
